JD.com founder And CEO Richard Liu

Richard Liu is an established Chinese businessman in the e-commerce industry and the founder of JD.com. Richard Liu Qiangdong was born in a poor neighborhood of Suqian in Jiangsu Province on March 10, 1973, and attended the People’s University of China and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Sociology.

Richard Liu dedicates most of his time converting his electronics businesses to JD.com, a leader in the e-commerce business. Liu Qiangdong accumulates a substantial amount of wealth when doing so, with his net worth estimated as $12.7 billion.

In 1998 Richard Liu established the Jingdong enterprise. The business comprises a store selling optical products such as ROMs, CDs, and DVDs. Qiangdong shifts to create an online platform since almost 1 billion people use the internet, and the number increases rapidly. The online platform exposed his magneto-optical products to internet users, and the result diversified the business to various products.

Over the years, JD.com has grown in production and has become innovative in cutting-edge technology that includes Artificial Intelligence and robotics. It also boasts an enormous infrastructure worldwide with a massive distribution system that uses drones to deliver orders. In May 2018, JD.com launched its self-driving truck, joining the race with other Chinese tech companies to replace human drivers with driver less vehicles. JD.com has a revenue of nearly $54 billion with a valuation of more than $58 billion.

JD.com has its affiliate JD-Finance that established the Smart City Research Institute in its headquarter. The institute handles research in commerce, planning, healthcare, energy consumption, e-government, and the urban environment.

Because of its reduced cost and efficiency in supply and demand, the company has become the best. In August, JD.com introduced the “Blockchain-as-a-service” open platform.
